Unearth a Story this summer! Starting June 12th, come by to choose your summer reading buddy. While you’re here, don’t forget to grab your Summer Reading Gameboard ( pre-K), Read & Bead Log (K-5), or BINGO card (gr.6 -Adult). No need to rush – logging begins on June 15th (and, of course, backdating is permitted!).
Grades are determined by the grade the participant will be in as of Fall 2026. Older Teens are welcome in the Adult BINGO program.
All Summer Reading Materials will be available for pick-up at the library starting June 12th. To learn more about each program, go HERE.

Critter Caravan Live Animal Safari
Thursday 7/23 at 6pm
Travel on safari with us and meet animals from all around the world.
Animals include a chinchilla, hedgehog, angora or Flemish giant rabbit, tortoise or guinea pig, lizard, and snake. Space limited, registration required. Registration open 7/9 at 6pm. Register by using the Library’s online calendar.
Family Game Night: Scattergories

Get ready for a night of fast thinking and fun! Register your family to compete as a team in the classic word game Scattergories. Can you come up with unique answers before time runs out? All ages are welcome (recommended for players ages 6 & up).

Visit the library between 6 and 7 pm for a popsicle. P.A.L.S ( the friends of the Durham Public Library) will be handing out popsicles to all comers. Come by and thank them for funding such an AMAZING summer. Don’t forget to turn in your summer reading logs and collect any prizes or beads. Outside Weather Permitting, no rain date.
All ages with an adult. No registration is required. Popsicles are limited, first-come, first-served.

Perfect for trainers in grades 1–5!
Meet once a month on Tuesdays at 2:00 PM for a fun-filled afternoon of all things Pokémon. Each session features a different activity, including fan challenges, Pokémon-themed games, trivia, and crafts. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just getting started, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Fun with Fossils

Fossils have a long story to tell! Take a first-hand look at real fossils, find out how fossils are made, and learn what they can tell us about the past. You’ll also have a chance to make your own “fossil” to bring home! Recommended for 1st to 5th graders.

Join Miss Kristen or Miss Alex every Friday at 10:30 AM for a fun, hands-on activity perfect for curious kids ages 2 and up (siblings welcome!). Whether it’s art, science, or a bit of both, each week’s activity will be a surprise revealed on the day of. Some programs may be outside—dress for mess! Registration is required and opens 2 weeks before each event. Space is limited to 12 children.
