2025 Summer Reading Brag Tag Contest
Help us design Durham Public Library’s 2025 “Read & Bead” brag tags! The theme is “Level Up at Your Library”, inspired by all types of gaming. We’re looking for creative designs from kids, teens, and adults. Three winning designs will be awarded and used for next summer’s readers!
Who: Artistic patrons of Durham Public Library
What: Brag tag design submissions
Guidelines:
- Word Limit: None. But fewer words allow for larger, bolder designs.
- Design Size:
- Paper Submissions: Up to 8.5” x 11”.
- Digital Submissions: JPG, PNG, GIF, AI, or PDF files are welcome (max file size: 25MB).
- Double-sided: Yes! We encourage double-sided designs.
- Submission Options:
- Paper: Drop it off at the front desk or mail it to Durham Public Library, Attn: Youth Services Dept., 7 Maple Ave., Durham, CT 06457.
- Digital: Email to aklaus@durhamlibrary.org.
Deadline: All designs are due by Saturday, February 8th.

Make a Mitten
10:30 AM to Close for the month of January.
Design a mitten at the library. Then drop it off so we can hang it up and decorate
the library for the winter. All supplies provided. Supplies limited. First come first served.
Pokemon Hunt
Month of January
Find all the Pokemon hidden in the kids’ area. Write the number next to the image on your sheet. Turn in your completed sheet at the front desk for a small surprise. Play as many times as you’d like all month long. All ages with an adult.
All Ages Storytime + Playgroup
Tuesdays 9:30 AM
Children of all ages with an adult are welcome to join Miss Alex on Tuesdays at 9:30 AM starting November 12th for stories, songs, and playgroup to follow.
NO storytime on 12/24,12/31 & 1/7 last storytime on 4/8.
Registration is encouraged order to connect in case of delay or cancellation due to weather or illness, but NOT required.
Pokemon Duel Club
Saturdays: 1/4, 2/1, 3/1 .
1:30 pm
Join us on the first Saturday of every month for fun-filled Pokémon dueling sessions! The library will have a few decks to loan, and no trading will be allowed. All levels of experience are welcome! Test your skills, make new friends, and enjoy the excitement of Pokémon battles. Open to kids in grades 3-6. Registration is encouraged but not required. Nutmeg Nights: A Book Club for Grades 3-6
Mondays: 1/06, 2/03, 3/03. Starting at 6:15 PM.
Join Miss Alex one Monday a month starting 10/07 at 6:15 pm for Nutmeg Nights! In this club, we will read a selection of the 2025 Intermediate Nutmeg book Nominees. Club members will then have a group discussion and do a fun activity, craft, or game relating to the book we’ve just read.

LEGO Robotics

4:30 pm for Grades 1-2 & 6 PM for Grade 3+
Monday evening kids in Grades 1-2 and 3+ can build and program a simple robot using LEGO Spike Essential Robotics kits. Registration required. Registration opens 10/7 Register online using the library’s calendar. Limit 10 per session.

Calling all 3rd-5th graders! Are you ready to master math, games, and puzzles? Join us every other week at the Durham Public Library for our Games Genius Group—a fun-filled hour of brain-boosting games that make math exciting! Whether you’re rolling the dice in thrilling math challenges, solving puzzles with friends, or mastering card games that test your logic, this club has something for everyone. Each session brings new activities and puzzles, so there’s always something fresh to solve and discover. Registration required, limit 20. You are registering for all 6 meetings.
Backyard Birding Adventure
Saturday, February 1st at 10:30 am
Curious about the birds in your backyard? Learn how to use binoculars and identify some of our local birds. Then we’ll make a treat to bring home and feed our feathered friends. Presented by our friends at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. Recommended for ages 6-10, but all ages are welcome! Registration is strongly encouraged, space is limited.

Valentine Paint Party

Get ready to paint your heart out! Kids in grades K and up are invited to a fun and creative Valentine’s Day Paint Party at the library. Join us as we create festive artwork to celebrate the season of love. All materials will be provided, and no experience is needed—just bring your imagination!

STEM Transforming the World- Innovators from Connecticut
Join us for an inspiring talk celebrating incredible women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), featuring trailblazers from Connecticut! Discover their amazing achievements and learn how they’re shaping the future. This event is Perfect for kids in grades 3-6 and their families, but all ages 0-99 are welcome. Don’t miss this exciting event during Women’s History Month! Presented by the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame.
