Museum Magic: Meet the Baldizzi Family

Wednesday, April 7 at 6 PM. Visit the 1930s home of Adolpho and Rosaria Baldizzi, immigrants from Sicily who lived at 97 Orchard Street in New York City! Via Zoom, take a tour of one of the Tenement Museum’s landmarks led by staff of the museum! We’ll explore their daily lives and experiences as immigrants living through the Great Depression. How did they manage economic struggles? What supports did they have from community and government programs, and what lessons can we draw from their story for our lives today?

Winner of Best Picture in 2017 Moonlight takes a frank look at the challenges of racism and homophobia, as confronted by Chiron, the young protagonist struggling to reach adulthood despite the support of immediate family. Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray are superb in this tale of love and ambition in the world of big business that went on to garner a Best Picture Oscar. Register here.
 

April 27 An American in Paris (1951) 7 PM
Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron sing and dance to the music of George and Ira Gershwin in this winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. When ex-GI Jerry Mulligan (Kelly) remains in Paris to pursue life as an artist, he is discovered by a wealthy patroness interested in more than his art. But Mulligan falls in love with a French shop girl (Caron) who is engaged to his best friend. Register here.

Have you ever wondered how we should ensure that people have the food they need? It’s a big question with many possible solutions. Birding 101

Join the CT Audubon Society as they share their knowledge of birds with the Durham community! Learn about birds and how to identify them. Explore the ways scientists study birds, some important research questions they attempt to answer, and how you can get involved in collecting citizen science data that can be available to scientists worldwide. Come learn from an experienced elder law attorney about important documents every adult should have. You’ll learn about wills, trusts, powers of attorney (POA), and healthcare directives. Engage with a marine mammal trainer as they conduct a training session with an Atlantic Harbor Seal, located right out front of the Aquarium! Learn about how they train, why they train, and what you can do to protect the ocean environment for these amazing animals!

Dream Interpretation

Have you had a dream that woke you in the middle of the night or a recurring dream and you knew it had a message for you? Or dreamed in color and wondered about its significance? Join us for a lecture with Rev. Lee Ireland as she discusses symbols, dream dictionaries, and journals and offers examples and tips on how to focus on analyzing your dreams. Using examples from Native tribes, Sanford’s Dreams and Healing, and her own experience as a Spiritual Director at Mercy Center in Madison, CT, participants will learn how to work with the gift of dreams.
