Message from the Director

Dear Patrons,

As you know, in order to protect the health and safety of our community, the Durham Public Library is closed to the public for the indefinite future. We are continuously reviewing updated guidelines from state and local public health authorities and plan to reopen as soon as we safely can.

Please know that, while our building may be closed, we have many wonderful resources and services you can access online 24 hours a day, including books, audiobooks, movies, and magazines. We have increased the number of digital titles available by buying additional titles for Overdrive, increasing the number of monthly titles you can check out in Hoopla, and launching a new digital video service called Kanopy. All of these are free to you with a Durham Public Library card. Don’t have a card or it has expired? Just email us at dpl@durhamlibrary.org and we will issue a temporary card.

Library staff continue to be available to you Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m. to help answer your questions. Leave us a voice message or send an email and we will get back to you as quickly as we can. Contact us if you’re a parent looking for ways to engage your children with fun and educational materials. Contact us if you need help finding available resources for business, health, employment, or other services. Contact us if you are simply bored and need help finding something to entertain you! We are ready to help.

Until we can meet again in person, please enjoy our digital resources, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, or reach out via email or telephone. We appreciate your patience and understanding and miss seeing you every day.

Thank you and stay safe,

Christine Michaud
Library Director
