This Fall, the Durham Public Library will provide a series of hands-on workshops designed to give adults with little to no computer experience the solid, basic skills needed to navigate a computer, the Internet, electronic communication and social media. This programming is made possible by a grant from the Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation.
There will be two 90-minute time slots scheduled for each day of class: 3:30-5 pm, or 6:30-8 pm. Classes are limited to 10 students each. Reservations can be made on or after September 23rd by calling (860) 349-9544 x1, or visiting the Library in person.
Classes will cover the following:
October 14th — Computer basics, including a mouse tutorial and typing tutorial
October 21st — Internet basics: introduction to web browsers (e.g. Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer), search engines (e.g. Google, Yahoo, Bing), navigation and Internet safety
October 28th — Email basics: choosing a service (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, AOL), selecting a username & password, and learning to navigate functions
November 4th — Facebook basics: creating a profile, selecting Friends, navigating the newsfeed, posting status updates; sending/receiving private messages; and ensuring privacy settings.
